Am I catholic for real now?!
Heyo everyone!! Hope the week was amazing!! I know mine was, so let's jump right in!!
Tuesday:
Tuesday we had our regular service. Which was fun as always. We got to make Charcuterie boards for a fundraiser that the food pantry was doing, and they let us take home a good bunch of food, which is always nice. Then that night we were at Kroger finding. Now you have to understand, when we say no one is at Kroger, we mean no one! There can be cars in the parking lot, but not a single person. So when Sister Hansen and I felt like we needed to go there, at 8pm, we were like: "really, Kroger?" But we went and followed our prompting, and I'm sooooo glad that we did!! Bc that's where we met Janelle. She had walked out of the store and to her car, and I walked up and started doing the flow. (For those who don't know, the flow is a way of finding where we just ask everyone if they want to come to church with us, and go from there.) And we got through the whole thing! So that was cool, that I finally got to see the flow work for us. Janelle couldn't cone to church on Sunday bc she's really busy, but we're going to keep trying!
Wednesday:
Wednesday morning we went to this really yummy bakery and ate there before service. The Danish was sooo good! Then we had our regular service and that was fun as always. There wasn't as many people as normal, so we had to cover for a few people, but we knew how to do it! Then we had a lesson with a memeber that afternoon and it went well! We had planned one thing, but then she was expressing a need, and the spirit urged me very strongly to testify to her. So I did, and ended up giving her a completely different invite then planned. I apologized to Heavenly Father that we didn't teach as we had planned, and the thought came to mind: "Don't apologize for following the spirit." And had kinda thought that already, but it did make me feel better. My comp said the same thing to me afterwards. We also had a relief society activity on Wednesday night. And that was fun. It was a thrifting swap night, so I might have gained a few more sweaters this week. (Sorry suitcase)
Thursday:
Thursday we had district council. Which was also good. I got to announce my spirt animal for the first time! (Sorry, I forgot to explain that we get spirit animals after our 1st, sometimes 2nd transfer in my mission.) Mine is a white horse. So that was fun, then we practiced inviting people to be baptized, which also went well.
Friday:
Friday was regular weekly planning. Which went as normal. But on our weekly huddle, (mission wide call to see how we're doing hitting mission goals) Sister Dahle and Sister Thayne both got to talk about their successes in their areas. Which is really great and I really am happy for them. But it was also hard for me to see my friends having more success in their small areas. So Sister Hansen and I slightly changed the way we pray, instead of saying 'please help us to find people' we say 'Heavenly Father, we are going to find 1 person here. Please guide us to them.' And guess what? It worked!! But not only was it 1 person, it was a dad and his 2 kids. All over the age of 8. So 3 people who all said yes to coming and meeting with us! They didn't come on Sunday, as they all slept late and didn't want to come late. But they said that their going to try again next week!! Theirs names are Scott, (the dad), Kirsten, (daughter), and Scotty Jr. (Son) we're so excited for them as I was also able to go through the flow with them! Also we finally ahd another lesson with Derek!!!! He's doing great, and still comes to church! So yay for Derek!
Also, there's this guy, Steve, (we call him catholic guy) we keep running into. The first time he said no to our church invite, the second he asked us if we were going with him. And the we saw him again on Friday night, and we both finally said yes. He and his friend Elaine are coming to our church, and me and Sister Hansen are going to their's! (Hence the title of this email) I think that it will be both really cool, and really interesting to go to a catholic church. I have curious before, so now I get to know!
Saturday:
Saturday we went to visit lots of inactive members out in Dillsboro and Aurora! (Other small towns in our area.) So our 'road trips' are always fun. Aurora is close, but Dillsboro is not, hence the road trip!
Sunday not much happened. We went to a members house for dinner, and they were soooo fun!!
Funny stories:
Bro. Dittmer: "I know your secret."
Me: "You do?"
Bro. Dittmer: "Yep, you shop at Kroger."
Me: "No, we were finding."
We ran into brother Dittmer at Kroger last week. But now instead of finding, we call it soul shopping. All because of brother Dittmer.
When we were in Dillsboro, we got a little lost. We had no reception, so we started talking about what would we do in an emergency. And what would ppl say at zone conference if a bear attacked the car.
Being me, I started singing really loudly as we were walking back to the car from service. (Don't stop believing, by Journey came on the public speakers.) And Sister Hansen started to walk away from me!! 🤣🤣
We pretended we were special agents this week, as we both had our sunglasses on. The pics are great.🤣🤣
Quick spiritual thought:
There are so many people I've run I to on my mission so far that don't know if Heavenly Father loves them. So if you're wondering of your heavenly father loves you, here's my invite: look for the small thing you enjoy, the rain, a cloud, time alone, etc, and write them down. Those things are one of the many ways that God shows his love for us. So I challenge you to look for them. I can promise that you will come to know for a surety that you have a loving heavenly father, who's always, always, there for you.
Congratulations to all those who made it to the end of this email! Sorry, I know that they keep getting longer. But I hope that y'all have an amazing week. And I will write again next week!
Love, Sister Alex Hersom!<3<3<3<3<3❤️❤️❤️❤️
