It's been a week, but Springfield has my heart ❤️
Oct. 2nd, 2023
Heyo!!! How's it going all?!?! I hope that y'all have had a fantastic week!! I know mine has been slow, but definitely so good!! And I hope that you all very much enjoyed general conference!!! I know I did!! Alright, I hear ya, "quit yacking Alex, what was your week like?" (Lol) well if you want to know so bad, guess that you'll have to keep reading!!
Tuesday: Service and lessons
So on Tuesdays here in Springfield, I still have service!! (Yay!) But instead of a food pantry, we clean an office! Yep, you read that right, an office!! But the people who work there are so appreciative and so welcoming!! It's fun!! (I now officially have an idea of what it's like to work in an office)
And then we also had some lessons with friends, which is also going so good!!
Wednesday: District council
Well, my district council days have changed, now it's Wednesday! But y'all the Springfield district is so amazing!! I love it so much already!! It's literally right next to my MTC district, it's that good!! So it's us Springfield sisters, the Springfield Haitian Creole speaking elders, the Bellefontaine elders, (Bellfountain, idk why ppl here in Ohio can't just say that) and our senior couple missionaries!! It's so good!! Do fun!! What makes it so good? Well, it's not just the missionaries, but our DL, (district leader) really knows what he's doing! He literally told us, (paraphrased) "Numbers are good for our goals, but our friends are real people with real needs. We're here to help them."
That is why I'm here on my mission, to help people, not count baptisms! Also our DL is a good mix of work, play, and encouragement! So, yeah the Springfield district is awesome!! Everyone is really funny and so good at teaching! We also had some really good lessons on Wednesday, so!!
Thursday: Service and lessons
We have service on Thursday as well, again in the same office and some really good lessons and finding! While we were finding, I experienced my 1st basher. I asked this couple if they wanted to come to church/watch general conference with us. She was pretty nice to us, but he started asking some questions that kinda didn't make sense. Anyway, we finished the convo and walked away. Sister Braun said that he was nicely bashing us a bit. (It all then clicked in my head that questions he was asking) Oh well. Sadly I was going to face one, sooner or later.
Friday: Weekly planning and calling
Friday was regular weekly planning, but later that evening I made 13 calls by myself! Now y'all may be thinking, "well, ok. Ppl make lots of calls all the time." But for those of you who know me pretty well, also know that I hate calling ppl. It's one thing if your my family or friend, but ever other call, no thank you!! Sister Bru doesn't like calling ppl either, and she wasn't feeling super great. So normally we would switch off every other call, but bc she wasn't feeling 100%, I made all the 13 calls we had to make that day, in less then an hour!! So yay for me!! Also funny story/huge blessing!! So Friday I had my pizza that was in the freezer for dinner. I cooked it in the oven, and ate it. Then went on for the rest of the evening. We came home had our STL call, and we're going to bed. Sister Braun and I we're up talking until around midnight our time. (I mean c'mon, we're girls, yeah we're gonna talk) Around 11:30, I was listening to Sister Braun as she was talking, and happen to notice a little orange light coming from the kitchen. (You probably already figured out what happened) Yep, I left the oven on!! For over 4 hours!! Sister Braun and I were wondering why it was so hot in the apartment! (Lol) So HUGE miracle from God that I didn't burn down the apartment!! Anywho...
Saturday: General Conference!!! And real crepes
Finally General Conference came!!! (I've literally been so excited since the beginning of August) so Saturday morning sadly we had no one to watch it with, so we watched it here in our apartment. Then Saturday afternoon we went to our church building where the elders were sharing it in English and Haitian Creole for all of our friends who wanted to come. What's even better then General Conference, you may ask? General Conference and Genuine French Crepes!! The elders brought crepes!! Elder Dujardin, (who's from France) made crepes, and brought them for all who came!! They also brought peanut butter and coconut, so crepes with peanut butter and coconut folded like a sandwich is sooooooo Good!!
Also during the Saturday evening session Sister Bruan and I discoved a closet in our apartment that we didn't know was there! So that was cool to explore!
Sunday: More general conference!!
Then for general conference today, we went over to one of our friends houses, (we're teaching here rn) for the morning session, then that afternoon we went back to the church again bc they were showing it for our friends. And we had a friend come to both Saturday and Sunday afternoon sessions at the church!! And Sunday he brought pizza!! (Which was so good bc Sister Braun and I were hungry)
Spiritual thought:
Y'all President Nelson's talk was so fire!! As was Elder Bednars, and Elder Rasbands, literally everyone's was so good! My favorite part of conference is and always will be the announcement of the new temples!! I so love and miss going to the lords house! Pls go for me!! Also this week I encourage you to study over these talks given in conference and find what was there for you!
Well, I absolutely love getting y'alls emails, they always cheer me up!! I love hearing from you!! Ok, I guess that's it for this week, I know that it was a bit long, (just for you Sister Hansen 😉🤣) but really, thank you for your continued love and support!! I miss you all so much!! Can't wait to hear from you, have a great week!!
Love Sister Alex Hersom!!
